Erwin (he/him) started his career as an educator, rooted in the belief that people and communities ought to have the power to determine their own futures. In over a decade, his community development work has expanded to include projects in food justice, co-operative development, and affordable housing. Currently, Erwin is the Fund Manager at City Life / Vida Urbana (CLVU), stewarding capital as part of a tenant organizing strategy that grows the movement for social housing.
Erwin draws inspiration from global solidarity economies and their practitioners, trusting in the Zapatista framing of a “world in which many worlds fit.” Erwin grew up in San Diego, California to a family and community of Chinese immigrants. He holds a degree in Global Affairs from Yale University and a Master of Arts in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University.
