Jorge Fontanez is Founder of Compound Impact Collective, an independent research initiative and policy education center for communities navigating the capital, climate, and technology choices reshaping America’s infrastructure. He is a solidarity economy strategist with over twenty years of experience across Fortune 500 companies and the impact economy.
As former CEO of B Lab U.S. & Canada—the regional operating entity behind B Corp certification—he doubled the operating budget, staff, and community, completing his tenure with $15 million, 42 FTEs, and 2,500 members across 40 chapters. That work placed him at the center of how purpose-driven businesses govern themselves and stay accountable at scale to mission and to their stakeholders.
Earlier, he deployed JPMorgan Chase’s $25 million community-giving grant program to over 30,000 nonprofits and launched the firm’s inaugural corporate responsibility campaign. Before that, he led marketing and sustainability at Colgate-Palmolive and Alcoa, commercializing $100 million in sustainable product innovations. He also founded Marca Studio, advising social entrepreneurs and foundations.
Jorge serves on the boards of Consumer Reports and the Financial Health Network, and advises NYU Stern’s Center for Sustainable Business, the Corporate Impact Lab, and AIHMA (AI Institute for Human Migration + Arrival). He previously taught at Bard MBA and NYU Stern and has been an Aspen Institute First Movers Fellow since 2014. He holds an MBA from NYU Stern and a BSE in Economics from Wharton.
