Naa Amissah-Hammond (she/her) is a Black, queer, immigrant, femme and the Chief Strategy Officer with Groundswell Fund, a public foundation that strengthens U.S. movements for reproductive and social justice. At Groundswell, Naa leads strategy development across the foundation’s core areas of grantmaking, capacity building, and funder organizing. In her tenure at Groundswell, Naa has supported hundreds of reproductive justice, birth justice, and social justice grantee partners as a Program Officer, Grantmaking Director, and fundraiser. Naa also serves as a Board Co-Chair of Funders for Reproductive Equity, an organization that fosters communication, collaboration, and connections among funders in the reproductive health, rights, and justice sector. Over the last 15 years, Naa has worked in philanthropy, development, and grassroots organizing with several U.S. organizations committed to LGBTQ liberation and racial, gender and economic justice, including former board service at Third Wave Fund and Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice.
Naa is most proud of being part of a strong family legacy of justice-minded folks from Ghana and Zimbabwe, who in their own ways bravely faced down authoritarian repression with the belief that when governments and laws are unjust, we must do what is morally right instead. She carries this spirit in her work today and seeks to follow her elders who always tried to stand on the right side of history. Naa lives in the Hudson Valley with her family and is an herbalist.
