Carolynn Beaty is the Executive Director of the Sitka Foundation, which, through investments in changemakers, communities and organizations, catalyzes the protection of nature and biodiversity in targeted environments. She has led the granting program since 2010 and provides strategic direction for the organization and all of its partnerships. She also advises on effective deployment of capital and serves on governance systems for key partners. She works with community organizers, policy and decision makers, all levels of governments, and scientists. Carolynn has a background in conservation biology and philosophy. She has been an educator in classroom settings and other less conventional places for the past fifteen years. She holds degrees from Queen’s University at Kingston and from Imperial College London. Most at peace in the natural world, Carolynn enjoys hiking, long distance running, and winter sports in her nearest park or wild space. She lives in Vancouver, Canada, with her young family.
