Chris Caners has more than 15 years of experience in climate action, energy solutions, and sustainable finance. As the General Manager of SolarShare, he guides a not-for-profit co-operative that runs 51 solar projects, supported by 2,100 members and over $80 million in community financing.
In his previous role as a Senior Manager at ICF, Chris spearheaded projects in climate policy, energy efficiency, and assurance for a diverse clientele that spanned government and industry. His international experience includes time with M-KOPA, an innovative financing company utilizing mobile technology to deliver affordable solar energy in East Africa.
In parallel with his work at SolarShare, Chris is an independent consultant, advising clients in GHG accounting and mitigation, the energy transition, and community finance. He also shares his knowledge as a lecturer on greenhouse gas accounting and sustainability reporting at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies. Chris also sits on the board of the Ontario Co-operative Association, where he champions alternative and co-operative business models.
Chris lives with his wife (Victoria), son (Ernest) and dog (Skippy) in Toronto.
