David Kenney (he/him) lives in Portland, Oregon and is a consultant and impact investor. He provides strategic consulting and advising services, focused on nonprofit management/leadership, environmental and economic justice, and integrated capital impact investing.
Previously, David led VertueLab, a nonprofit organization with a mission to unleash innovation and entrepreneurship to solve environmental challenges and catalyze shared economic prosperity. Focused on reversing climate change and supporting equitable climate solutions, VertueLab makes catalytic investments and provides support to early-stage clean technology companies. During his fifteen years leading the organization, VertueLab launched the use of program-related investing (PRI) to support early stage cleantech startups, actively connecting philanthropic capital to climate crisis solutions.
David served on the National Advisory Council on Innovation & Entrepreneurship (NACIE) during 2014-18 and 2022-24, appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce three times. During twelve years at Intel Corp, David held leadership roles in finance, project management and business and organizational operations, and co-founded and led the Intel Employee Sustainability Network.
His experience managing his own financial assets led him to collaborate with another JEI fellow to launch an impact investing circle to provide peer support and education in aligning personal investments with personal values. David gets inspiration from passionate entrepreneurs building mission-centered businesses.
David has a BA degree from the University of Washington and an MBA and certificate in public management from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
David lives with his partner, Mariam, and has two adult children. He enjoys hiking/backpacking, flatwater kayaking, watching Portland Timbers/Thorns soccer, and exploring the restaurant/brewery scene in Portland.
